Salutations and welcome to The House! This will be the official blog destination location for Scouse’s House and by extension for all things Louisville City Football Club. As this is the first post for a soon-to-be legendary on-line publication, I will take my cues from the great Englishman Lewis Carroll who said, “Always begin at the beginning..
In the beginning there was soccer, and it was good. Except it wasn’t soccer yet because we Americans hadn’t bastardized it. So really in the beginning there was football, and it was good. And because it was so good, people formed into teams and from teams they formed into leagues. They invented the offsides trap, and Pele did cool stuff, and the Germans have usually been good, and Tottenham always blows it, and then oil money showed up and Lionel Messi is a freak and the game rolled on being good. Then a whole lot of other interesting things happened and they all led to Brian Ownby’s beard. And it is good.
So, that’s it. That’s the entire (distilled) history of soccer. That’s why we are here. You are reading these words on the brand new Scouse’s House website because you love soccer, or because you love Louisville City Football Club, or because you love me (Hi Mom!). If none of those things is true and you are still reading then the rest of this post is going to be a major disappointment to you.
For the uninitiated, I have put together a helpful glossary of commonly used terms so that we are all speaking the same language. They are likely to appear regularly on this website:
USL = United Soccer League, the only active second division soccer league in America (RIP to the NASL)
LCFC = Louisville City Football Club, the only independent professional sports franchise in Kentucky’s largest city, also, the current USL Champions
Slugger = Louisville Slugger Field, the current home field for LCFC, the less said the better
JOC = Coach James O’Connor, the fearless leader and head coach of LCFC
Scouse’s House = An official Supporter’s Group for LCFC located on the patio deck by the outfield goal. We are the guys with the international flags.***
The Coopers = The other official Supporter’s Group for LCFC located by the concourse down the third base line. They are the guys with the smoke.
FCC = Some other, lesser soccer team.
*** – This is the Scouse’s House blog and website, so it is likely you will also see Scouse’s House referred to as “we” or “us” or “badasses”. I’m an unreliable narrator.
There are a lot of other terms to know, but if you don’t know basic soccer lingo then you were already fighting a losing battle on this site.
Scouse’s House is the brain child of Michael “Scouse” Bromilow who serves as our President and Chief Bottle Washer. You can read about him in the leadership bio section above. But I will briefly say that Scouse and number of like-minded fans who didn’t fancy being Coopers decided to form a second Supporter’s Group behind the opposite goal for reasons. After a great deal of work and negotiation, we conquered and pillaged the patio deck and made it our own. Scouse’s House is home to passionate fans and soccer novices, men and women and children and Americans and Internationals and we all preach love for the team and love for our fellow humans. Unless that fellow human is an opposing goalkeeper, and then we preach belligerent mockery.
